some kanji, beside the number
of strokes
there is a d (= a dash)
or an n (= no
dash). This detail
of shape speeds up the search
as it divides each group
into two equal subgroups
(the average is 12 kanji
per subgroup).

- Find the kanji in the dictionary:

the kanji you are looking
up belongs to, using the signs on
the first page of
the book and the
marks on the edge.
